I am a professor of AI & Optimization Techniques for Business & Society in University of Amsterdam (UvA), where I am a faculty member at the Business Analytics section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS).

In the past, I had served for three years as a professor of Data Science and Optimization at the Department of Econometrics of Erasmus University (EUR), and before EUR, I had been a professor of optimization at the Industrial Engineering Department of Sabancı University for more than a decade.

My research interests center around optimization methods in data science and decision making. Lately, I am interested in interpretable machine learning and data privacy in operations research.

• Starting from 1 February 2022, I will be the new head of Business Analytics section at UvA.

• Our paper on differentially private accelerated optimization algorithms is accepted for publication in SIAM Journal on Optimization. (arXiv)(github)

• I will be one of the speakers in EURO Ph.D. School of Data Driven Decision Making and Optimization. The school will be held at Institute of Mathematics of the University of Seville from 13th to 22nd of June.

• We have released our new meta-learning algorithm LEarning with Subset Stacking (LESS). The Python package and the tutorials are available on our GitHub repository. You can also read our paper on arXiv.

• I will be leading the UvA group on Optimization and Machine Learning at the Dutch Network on the Mathematics of Operations Research (LNMB).

• Our work on mixed-integer optimization with constraint learning is accepted to Decision Optimization Workshop in 36th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence.

• We have three new papers on arXiv. The first one is about differential privacy in multi-party resource sharing, the second one is about optimization with constraint learning, and the last one is about an alternative stochastic gradient method for training deep learning models.
• We organized a workshop on machine learning for optimization. All presentations and recordings are available on the workshop’s website.
• I am now an affiliated researcher of OPTIMAL.
• We organized a fall school on mathematics of machine learning in Nesin Villages.
