I am a professor of AI & Optimization Techniques for Business & Society in University of Amsterdam (UvA), where I am a faculty member at the Business Analytics section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS).

In the past, I had served for three years as a professor of Data Science and Optimization at the Department of Econometrics of Erasmus University (EUR), and before EUR, I had been a professor of optimization at the Industrial Engineering Department of Sabancı University for more than a decade.

My research interests center around optimization methods in artificial intelligence and decision making. Lately, I am interested in explainable optimization.

Recent News

• Our paper with Nurşen Aydın and E. Mehmet Kıral is accepted to the the 40th Annual Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS), Sydney-Atlanta-Paris, 2026.

• We have started to work on certification of decision pipelines. Our first work with Wenhao Chi in this area is now on (arXiv).

• With my co-authors Ezgi Öztekin and Figen Öztoprak, we have started to work on dynamic constraint learning in optimization. Our first experiments are on (arXiv).

• We have two new papers on arXiv. The first one is a discussion paper on Explainable Optimization, and the second one is about obtaining input distributions to explain portfolio decision pipelines.

• Our paper with Adia Lumadjeng and Erman Acar is accepted to the 43rd International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML), Seoul, South Korea, 2026.
