I am a professor of AI & Optimization Techniques for Business & Society in University of Amsterdam (UvA), where I am a faculty member at the Business Analytics section of the Amsterdam Business School (ABS).
In the past, I had served for three years as a professor of Data Science and Optimization at the Department of Econometrics of Erasmus University (EUR), and before EUR, I had been a professor of optimization at the Industrial Engineering Department of Sabancı University for more than a decade.
My research interests center around optimization methods in artificial intellince and decision making. Lately, I am interested in explainable optimization.

I am going to talk about explainable optimization at the 2nd EURO PhD School Data Science Meets Combinatorial Optimisation, Eindhoven University, The Netherlands.
Our paper with M. Kuipers, U. Konus, B. J. J. M. Brundel has just appeared in npj Digital Medicine.
Our first paper on explainable optimization with J. Kurtz and D. den Hertog is accepted for publication in European Journal of Operational Research.
I gave the plenary talk on “Artificial Intelligence and Explanation Methods in Optimization,” at the 44th National Operations Research and Industrial Engineering Conference - YAEM 2025.
We organized the session “New Approaches in Explainable Optimization” at EURO 2025, University of Leeds, UK.
